Cradled by one of Malta’s most remarkable prehistoric sites, this peaceful morning session offers a unique opportunity to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with yourself in an extraordinary historic setting. Designed to release tension and restore balance, the session combines gentle guided movements with mindful breathing to enhance both physical and mental wellbeing.
Whether you’re a beginner or a regular practitioner, everyone is welcome. Please bring your yoga mat, towel, and water.

Revisiting the Excavations of Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra
8 September 2026 – 9:00 – 19:00 – Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park, Triq Qrendi, Malta
This lecture revisits the excavation history of Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra, beginning with the first clearing exercise carried out in 1839/1840 and exploring subsequent archaeological investigations at these two iconic megalithic sites.
Through archival sources, including old photographs, surveys, and excavation records, the lecture will explore how these investigations have contributed to our understanding of the sites. It will also consider how the knowledge gathered over time continues to support the curator’s role in interpreting, managing, and safeguarding these important Late Neolithic monuments.
The lecture will be held at the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Visitor Centre and will be delivered in English by site curator Christian Mintoff. Participants are asked to meet at 6:45pm, and the lecture will start at 7:00pm.
At the end of the lecture, participants will have the opportunity to continue the discussion over a glass of wine, with light bites also being served.

Victory Day Regatta: Celebrating’s Malta’s Triumphs
8 September 2026 – 9:00 – 19:00 – Fort St Angelo, Birgu, Malta
Victory Day commemorates two high points in Maltese history – the victorious end of the Great Siege on 8th September 1565, when the Ottoman forces gave up their attempts to take over the islands after three months of relentless fighting and heavy losses, and the date when the surrender of Fascist Italy was made public in 1943, giving Malta a breather in the Second World War. By sheer coincidence, the birth of the Virgin Mary is also celebrated on this day.
Our day of events at Fort St Angelo will start with mass in the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin, followed by a commemoration at the Victory of the Great Siege Monument. The public can also admire the recent restoration of the chapel.
At noon, another mass will be celebrated at St Anne’s Chapel in Upper Fort St Angelo.
The afternoon will be enlivened by a local re-enactment group.
The Fort will be open at a reduced entry fee from 09:00 till 19:00, with last admissions at 18:30, serving as the perfect vantage point from where to enjoy the National Regatta taking place at the Grand Harbour. A bar set up at the Fort will be selling refreshing drinks and snacks.
Tickets for the event may only be purchased at the door on the day. Tickets cost €3 each for adults, seniors, and students. Children up to 11 years of age and Heritage Malta members presenting their membership card will be admitted free of charge. Heritage Malta passports are not applicable for this event.

Unwind with an inspiring evening of art, history, and creativity in the tranquil gardens surrounding St Paul’s Catacombs on Friday 11th September, from 6:00pm till 7:30pm.
Set against the unique backdrop of one of Malta’s most significant archaeological sites, this special experience combines cultural discovery with artistic expression. The evening begins with a short guided tour of St Paul’s Catacombs, where participants will explore the fascinating underground burial complex and learn about its rich history, offering plenty of inspiration for the creative session ahead.
Following the tour, guests will gather in the peaceful gardens for a relaxed, instructor-led painting session. Experiment with colour and composition as you capture your impressions on canvas in a welcoming and atmospheric setting. Whether you’re an experienced artist or simply looking to try something new, this session is designed to inspire creativity while enjoying a social and relaxing evening.
All painting materials will be provided, along with wine, water, and light snacks to enjoy throughout the experience.

Museums By Candlelight: Rabat & Mdina

On Saturday, 19th September 2026, Museums by Candlelight returns to the charming Rabat and Mdina for the final edition of this year’s series.
From 7:00 p.m. onwards, with last admission at midnight, visitors will be able to explore Domvs Romana, St Paul’s Catacombs and the National Museum of Natural History for just €3. Illuminated by the gentle glow of thousands of candles, the three sites will offer a more intimate, immersive experience, made even more special with live music and entertainment throughout the evening.
The Domvs Romana offers a rare glimpse into the domestic life of a Roman aristocratic family. While little of the original dwelling has survived, its exquisite mosaics and the wealth of artefacts uncovered on site provide compelling evidence of its former splendour. These remarkable historical treasures are preserved within Malta’s first purpose-built archaeological museum, which opened its doors in 1882. The evening’s musical programme at Domvs Romana will feature harpist Laetitia and violinist Stephen Scerri, performing from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
At St Paul’s Catacombs, visitors can explore Malta’s largest complex of interconnected underground Roman cemeteries. Recently becoming the first site in Malta to receive the prestigious European Heritage Label, the catacombs provide important evidence of burial practices and religious traditions spanning the Punic, Roman and Byzantine periods. The site was recently awarded the prestigious European Heritage Label, becoming the first site in Malta to receive this distinguished recognition. Local Maltese band Skald will provide live entertainment there on the night from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The National Museum of Natural History then invites visitors into the magnificent 18th-century Vilhena Palace in Mdina, a landmark Baroque building commissioned by Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena. Its extensive collection explores Malta’s natural heritage, with highlights including a mummified Nile crocodile, the skull of a false killer whale, a fossilised crocodilian head discovered in Gozo and a tooth from the extinct giant white shark. Kathy the Violinist will provide musical accompaniment at the museum during the evening.
The event will also coincide with Rabat Sacrum, organised by the Rabat Local Council from 6:00 p.m. onwards, adding to the vibrant atmosphere across Rabat and Mdina.
The attending public is encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and footwear, as the event involves walking between the three venues and exploring each site on foot.

Autumn Equinox
21-23 September 2026 – 6:00 – Ħaġar Qim & Mnajdra Archaeological Park Qrendi, Malta
The Autumn Equinox event at Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park is scheduled to take place on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of September. This unique event marks the beginning of autumn through a remarkable alignment, where the southern megalithic structure of Mnajdra aligns precisely with the rising sun. This highlights an advanced prehistoric understanding of celestial movements. This knowledge was particularly vital for agricultural societies, enabling them to track seasons effectively for planting and harvesting crops in the absence of formal calendars.
Visitors interested in witnessing this extraordinary alignment must gather at 6 am near the entrance to the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Visitor Centre. Due to the nature of the event, participation is strictly limited to a maximum of 30 people per day, ensuring everyone has an optimal viewing experience. After observing the sunrise alignment at Mnajdra, attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the nearby Ħaġar Qim site and the Visitor Centre, where refreshments will be provided.
Tickets for the event are priced at €35 for the general public and €25 for Heritage Malta members. Tickets can be purchased online or at any Heritage Malta site or museum.
The event is open to visitors of all ages and will be conducted in a bilingual format (Maltese and English), ensuring inclusivity for all participants. Comfortable shoes are recommended for the visit.
