What do you need to do/ask/check when relocating to Malta and finding a home?
Moving to another country is always more hassle than just moving to a different city. However, the truth is that relocating to Malta is quite easy, especially for EU nationals.

Do I need a Passport or will my ID card suffice?
This depends on where you originate from. While a passport or an ID card is always recommended, those originating from a Schengen (EU) area don’t require identification. EU nationals have to advise the authorities if their stay is longer than three months.
People from Canada, US, Australia and Britain need a passport which makes them eligible for up to three months’ stay. Beyond these countries, a visa has to be applied for.
Can I bring my pet?
Sure! Your pet needs a microchip, pet passport and valid rabies vaccinations. Pets from outside the EU also require an official veterinary certificate. Any dog travelling to Malta must have tapeworm treatment first. The Maltese love their pets and several eateries are pet-friendly.
What languages are spoken in Malta?
Maltese and English are the official languages; Maltese being the national language. Most people speak a mixture of Maltese and English, with many speaking a third, predominantly Italian.
Learning basic Maltese—a rich language with deep Arabic roots—is always a plus, but English suffices.
How can I rent or purchase a property in Malta?
